"Striking 12" Hits A Holiday Note
At SpeakEasy Stage Company

From December 8, 2010, thru January 2, 2011, SpeakEasy Stage Company will present the New England premiere of the hip holiday musical "Striking 12." The show will be performed in an intimate cabaret setting in Deane Hall, located on the second floor of the Stanford Calderwood Pavilion at the Boston Center for the Arts, 527 Tremont Street in Boston’s South End.

Conceived by the indie rock trio GrooveLily, with help from Tony Award-winning book writer Rachel Sheinkin ("25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee"), "Striking 12" is a described as a unique hybrid of musical theater and live concert in which the musicians are also the actors and the concert tells a story.

The show weaves a modern-day New Year’s Eve into Hans Christian Anderson’s classic fable The Little Match Girl for to create a tale of a grumpy overworked New Yorker whose resolve to spend New Year’s alone crumbles when an unexpected visitor brings some much needed cheer.

All of this unfolds through a tuneful pop-rock-jazz score that retains GrooveLily’s vibrant style.

The cast features Boston actor and music director José Delgado on keyboard, Zachary Hardy on drums, and ART/MXAT Institute student Erikka Walsh on the violin.

Recent Emerson alumni and SpeakEasy Marketing Associate Scott Sinclair will direct. At SpeakEasy, Scott has previously served as assistant director on "Jerry Springer - The Opera" and "[title of show]."
