"Hamlet" Announced For New Rep On Tour

New Rep On Tour continues its seventh season with "Hamlet," one of William Shakespeare’s greatest tragedies. Directed by Sarah Krohn, "Hamlet" will be presented for one performance only at New Repertory Theatre on March 13 at 7:30 PM to benefit New Rep’s education and outreach programs.

The production, supported by Bank of America, will then tour to more than 20 area schools from March 6 through April 13.

The New Rep On Tour production of "Hamlet" is described an energetic, 90-minute adaptation in which five actors portray all the characters and create live sound effects in the classic tale of the struggle for revenge and moral integrity.

The cast includes Ed Hoopman, Bill Molnar, Marc Harpin, Mason Sand and Cristi Miles. Following each performance, the artists will lead a talkback session, allowing students to ask questions and discuss the important topics of the play.

Earlier this season, New Rep On Tour’s production of "The Diary of Anne Frank" visited 26 schools.  Last season, the company's programming reached more than 12,000 students, many of them in under-served communities.  Company management comments that teachers have come to rely on the Tour as an annual event in their schools, and student testimonials describe the widespread enthusiasm for these productions.

New Repertory Theatre offers its touring program thanks to the generosity of individuals and support from Bank of America, The Boston Foundation, The Ariel Group, Massachusetts Cultural Council and the Local Cultural Councils of Arlington, Blackstone, Northbridge, Saugus, Sharon, Walpole and Wilmington.

New Repertory Theatre presents the works of both established and emerging playwrights in an intimate setting that involves and engages the audience.  New Rep has earned a reputation for dynamic productions that honor the writers and feature talented professional actors from the New England theater community as well as guest artists from around the U.S.  New Rep has received Elliot Norton Awards for outstanding acting, scenic design, direction and production.  Programming is supported in part by a grant from the Massachusetts Cultural Council.
