Broadway Artists
Part Of 2007 Boston Pops Season

Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops kick off their 2007 season on May 9. In Lockhart's 13th season with the orchestra, he will lead 29 concerts, including several devoted to Broadway.

Broadway and cabaret artist Liz Callaway ("Baby," "Miss Saigon," "Cats" and "Merrily We Roll Along") will join Lockhart and the Pops for tributes to music of the Baby Boomer generation May 11-12. Whether it’s the sounds of the ’60s or the best of the ’70s, these special programs will include such classics as “Feelin’ Groovy,” “MacArthur Park,” “Downtown” and “Where Have All the Flowers Gone?”

In addition to her extensive work on original cast albums, Callaway has recorded several solo CDs including “The Story Goes On: Liz Callaway On and Off-Broadway,” “Anywhere I Wander: The Music of Frank Loesser" and “The Beat Goes On.”

From June 13-15, the Pops will present a concert version of Rodgers and Hammerstein’s "Carousel" with an all-star Broadway cast. Members of the Tanglewood Music Center will join the stars to sing the score that Richard Rodgers called his favorite. The Pops will also perform "Carousel" at Tanglewood on July 10.

Broadway's acclaimed husband-and-wife stars Marin Mazzie (currently starring on Broadway in "Spamalot" and remembered for her astounding performances in "Ragtime," "Kiss Me Kate" and "Passion") and Jason Danieley ("The Full Monty," "Candide," "Floyd Collins" and this season's new Kander & Ebb musical "Curtains") will reprise their Oscar and Tony performances from last season on July 1, joining the Pops to highlight the best music of Broadway and Hollywood.

Together and individually Mazzie and Danieley have performed as guest artists with The New York Pops, Boston Pops, Philly Pops and the San Francisco Symphony, with the Utah, Minnesota, Pittsburgh and Buffalo Symphonies and at the Hollywood Bowl. They also created an evening of duets for Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series and can be heard on their CD, "Opposite You."

Finally, Marvin Hamlisch, the composer behind such Broadway hits as "A Chorus Line," "The Sweet Smell of Success" and "The Goodbye Girl," will lead a special Oscar and Tony performance on June 19.

As a composer, Hamlisch has won virtually every major award that exists: three Oscars, four Grammys, four Emmys, a Tony and three Golden Globe awards. As well, the groundbreaking "A Chorus Line" received the Pulitzer Prize. He has composed more than forty motion picture scores including the Oscar-winning "The Way We Were" and his adaptation of Scott Joplin’s music for "The Sting." (Steven Mercurio, internationally renowned opera conductor, conducts the Pops’ June 21 and 22 Oscar and Tony shows.)

Tickets for these concerts as well as the rest of the 2007 Pops season may be purchased by calling SymphonyCharge at 617-266-1200 or 888-266-1200, in person at the Symphony Hall box office, or online at www.bso.org.
