William Finn's "New Brain"
From Longwood Players
April 20 - 28

The Longwood Players will present William Finn's semi-autobiographical musical, "A New Brain," at the Cambridge Family YMCA Theatre in Central Square from April 20 - 28.

Directed by Daniel J. Rabone, the ensemble company includes David Carney, Jackie Duffy, Samantha Flahive, Ian Flynn, Jocelyn Hesse, Michael Kripchak (below), Charlie Imhoff, Diana Jelmini, Steven Kosakow, Dan Moore, Katie Pickett and Brian D. Wagner.

"A New Brain" is the poignant story of neurotic Gordon Schwinn and his fight against a brain condition that not only threatens his life, but the lasting legacy he so desperately wants to leave behind.

As his family, friends, and lover gather to support him, Gordon must take stock and reconnect with himself and the world around him. "A New Brain" explores the concepts of love, life and relationships – and what kind of 'medicine' it really takes to move someone through the worst of winters into the most beautiful of springs.

Originally presented Off-Broadway at Lincoln Center in 1998, the show boasts a number of stand-out songs, including "Heart and Music," "I'd Rather be Sailing," "Gordo's Law of Genetics," "The Music Still Plays On" and "I Feel so Much Spring."

Of the original production, The New York Times wrote, "'A New Brain' is the most exciting musical to reach New York in quite a while…there's greatness here." Thanks to a successful cast recording, the musical has developed a following over the years.
