While theater officials continue to assess the damage, North Shore plans to re-open on August 23 with the new musical “Abyssinia.” The theatre is in the midst of celebrating its 50th anniversary this season.

The cause of the fire, which occurred after the July 14 performance when the building was empty, was determined to be an accidental electrical malfunction. (Subsequent reports pinpoint a fog machine beneath the stage area.)

The fire spread through the orchestra pit area but was rapidly contained by the efforts of the Beverly Fire Department and surrounding fire departments.

The theatre, in the midst of celebrating its 50th anniversary season, has established the following options for donations, refunds and exchanges:

1. Patrons may donate the full value of their ticket back to NSMT, and receive a tax deduction for the face value of the tickets.

2. Patrons may redeem their ticket for credit toward another performance.

3. Patrons may receive a refund in full.

Tickets may be returned to the box office after July 18, or mailed to NSMT, PO Box 62, Beverly, MA 01915. For further information, call the Box Office, after July 18, at 978-232-7200 or visit www.nsmt.org.
