New Haven Cabaret Conference

Fans of Cabaret will be interested to know about The Cabaret Conference being held at Yale University from August 1 - 10. The conference, under the guidance of Executive Artistic Director Erv Raible, has been developed in conjunction with the University.

A do-able drive from Boston, the New Haven conference boasts participation by such popular artists as Sally Mayes, Thommie Walsh, Tovah Feldshuh, Jason Graae, Carol Hall, Amanda McBroom and legendary Julie Wilson, (left) among others.

An intensive look at the art of cabaret technique, the nine day teaching program will take a look at The Great American Songbook from its origins in the late 19th century through the classic pop standards of the 1930s and 40s to today's contemporary cabaret, musical theater and pop music.

In addition to artistic interpretation, classes and lectures will also cover material research, orchestrations, marketing, publicity, technical production values and artist management.

Several concerts will be also incorporated into the conference, including:

Tovah Feldshuh in "Tovah: Out Of Her Mind"

Julie Wilson's "Gems I Love"

Sally Mayes in "The Story Hour"

and Jason Graae in his "An Evening of Self-Indulgence" (which was captured live on his LIVE From The Cinegrill CD).
