Jose Mateo’s “Nutcracker”
Returns for 15th Season

Jose Mateo’s Ballet Theatre will present its 15th annual production of “The Nutcracker” from November 29 - December 29. After ten years at The Emerson Majestic Theatre, this season marks Mateo’s second year at The Sanctuary Theatre in Harvard Square.

Choreographed by Artistic Director Jose Mateo, Ballet Theatre’s original production of “The Nutcracker” has become a holiday tradition all its own. The 250-seat Sanctuary Theatre provides an ideal setting for the spirit of Mateo’s “Nutcracker,” with a close-up view of all the magic.

Mateo’s “Nutcracker” promises “sumptuous sets and costumes and spectacular dancing that brings Clara’s dream world to life” including dancing snowflakes, battling toy soldiers and waltzing Sugar Plum Fairies.

More than 200 Massachusetts and New Hampshire children between the ages of 6 and 18 will join the professional cast as party children, mice, soldiers, cherubs and angels.

As an interesting side note, Mateo’s company recently signed a 41-year lease with Old Cambridge Baptist Church and began renovations on its new home, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Thire three phase renovation project includes four state-of-the-art dance studios as well as the construction of The Sanctuary Theatre with seating for up to 250.

Ranking as the second largest ballet company in Boston, Joe Mateo’s Ballet Theatre has gained a solid reputation for artistic excellence and quality programming. As well, the company’s full repertory (40 original works) has been choreographed by its resident choreographer.
